Past life.​ Fifth Nimitz-class hull, keel laid 3 Nov 1984 at Newport News, launched 13 Feb 1988, commissioned 11 Nov 1989. Named after the 16th president; second US Navy ship to bear the name (the first was SSBN-602). First supercarrier to break the 100,000-ton loaded barrier. Transferred to the Pacific Fleet in 1990; first major deployment caught Operation Desert Storm and the Fiery Vigil Pinatubo evacuation.

Platform.​ 332.9 m LOA, 76.8 m flight deck, ~102,000 t full load. Two A4W PWRs → 4 steam turbines, 260,000 SHP, 30+ kt, 25-year refuel cycle. CVW-9 today mixes F/A-18E/F, F-35C, EA-18G, E-2D, MH-60R/S. RCOH completed 2013–2017, so reactor core is good to ~2040s.

2025–2026 reality.​ Deployed to the Middle East Jan 2026, ran 272–286 consecutive days at sea, guarded Hormuz, took Houthi/IRGC drone pressure, pulled out Aug 2026, stopped Phuket/Thai ports early Sep, homeward to San Diego. Rust streaks on the waterline, crew fatigue, food-supply complaints — a hull doing cruiser-era durations on a 37-year-old body.

Born 14 years later.​ Keel 12 Feb 1998, launched 4 Mar 2001, commissioned 12 Jul 2003. Ninth Nimitz hull, first carrier named for a living ex-president. Homeported at Yokosuka 2015–2024 as Carrier Strike Group Five flag, then rotated to Bremerton for a ~18-month PIA (Planned Incremental Availability) starting 2024.

Why it beats Lincoln on paper.​ Same A4W plant and ~104,000 t load, but the hull is a late-Nimitz: bulbous bow tuned for seakeeping, island reshaped (no separate aft mast, integrated tower mast), angled deck reworked to 10° for faster cycling, ICAN wiring, SPQ-9B surface radar, better CBRN closure, 14 fewer years of metal fatigue, reactor core still mid-life. In a clean spec fight, Reagan > Lincoln.

纸面为何压林肯一头。​ 同款 A4W、满载约10.4万吨,但属后期尼米兹:球鼻艏稳性优化,舰岛重雕(取消独立后桅、整合塔桅),斜角甲板改10°加快周转,上 ICAN 线路、SPQ-9B 对海雷达、更好三防、少14年金属疲劳,堆芯仍在中年。干净状态里根 > 林肯。

September 2026 status.​ Just left Bremerton on sea trials (3 Sep 2026), not yet air-certified, not yet strike-group ready — expected back to a forward berth in 2027. So right now neither carrier is a ready warfighter: Lincoln is exhausted-homeward, Reagan is post-yard unproven.

Hull identity.​ 71st Arleigh Burke, Flight IIA Restart (aka Technology Insertion), Ingalls-built, commissioned 2022, homeport Pearl Harbor. ~9,300 t full load, 155.3 m, SPY-1D(V) radar, Aegis Baseline 9C​ (integrated AAW + BMD), 96-cell MK-41, twin helo hangars for MH-60R.

Role in the Lincoln battlegroup.​ Sailed with CVN-72's 2024–2025 rotation as one of DESRON 21 escorts; in the absence of a Ticonderoga cruiser, a Baseline 9 IIA like DDG-121 was tasked as de-facto Air Defense Commander (ADC) — sorting SM-2/SM-6 engagements, cueing SM-3 ballistic-missile shots, running Tomahawk strike planning, screening subs with the helo, and in Apr 2026 transited Hormuz alongside DDG-112 Michael Murphy for mine-countermeasure escort and FONOPS.

Where it sits in the Burke ladder.​ Above Flight I/II (no hangars, Baseline 4/5), equal to native IIA, below Flight III (DDG-125+) which gets SPY-6 and double electric plant. Its real value is age + Baseline 9 + 96 cells at a moment when cruisers are dying and Flight IIIs are scarce — the stopgap that lets a 1989 carrier still fight a 2026 threat mix.

  • Carrier vs carrier:​ Reagan wins on metal, radar, deck flow, remaining life. Lincoln wins on "has actually been there lately" — but that cuts both ways: her 286 days at sea is fatigue, not strength.
