Hypersonic anti-ship missiles (HASMs) are conventionally armed munitions that sustain Mach 5+ flight in the atmosphere or near-space layer, combine flat-skimming or quasi-ballistic glide trajectories with terminal lateral maneuvering, and close on a surface combatant from ranges of 500–1,500 km (cruise-missile class such as Russia’s Zircon) or 1,000–3,000 km (anti-ship ballistic / glide vehicles such as China’s YJ-21 / DF-26 / DF-27 family).

The decisive threshold is not speed alone, but the compression of the defender’s kill-chain time: at Mach 8–10, a missile fired from 1,000 km needs roughly 5–7 minutes to impact, leaving a carrier group’s layered air-defense (radar track → fire-control solution → SM-6/SM-3 launch → intercept) with sub-20-second terminal windows that fall below human-in-the-loop reaction limits.
真正改变规则的不是“快”,而是把防御方的杀伤链时间压垮:8–10马赫下,1000公里外发射至命中约需5–7分钟,而航母编队三层防空(雷达截获→火控解算→标准-6/3发射→拦截)的末段可用窗口被压缩到 20秒以内,低于有人闭环反应下限。

The weapon’s value scales with the number of launch platforms — YJ-20/YJ-21 compatible with 052D as well as 055 multiplies credible firing units from ~10 to ~45 hulls.

Escalation logic: Because HASMs threaten command-and-control afloat and nuclear-powered carriers, any large-volume exchange risks rapid climb up the escalation ladder even without crossing the nuclear line — making them strategic signaling weapons as much as tactical strike tools.
升级逻辑:因威胁对象含核动力航母与海上指挥节点,大规模齐射即便不触核红线也易引发升级,故同时具备“战略信号”与“战术打击”双重属性。
四、智库判断 / Conclusion
Hypersonic anti-ship missiles have not made the aircraft carrier obsolete; they have re-priced its survivability. In the Western Pacific, Baltic/Black Sea littorals, and the Indian Ocean, the carrier group must now assume it is inside the engagement envelope from the opening hour, operate dispersed, lean on allied buffers, and accept that “mission kill” not “sinking” is the realistic adversarial objective. The decisive competition is therefore no longer Mach number versus flange thickness, but sensor-to-shooter latency versus launcher density — and on that axis, HASMs have already rewritten the naval brief.
