As large models migrate from labs to households, the traditional digital landscape is undergoing seismic shifts. The PC internet was born to “connect information,” and mobile internet exploded by “connecting services.” The essence of the AI era, however, is “connecting intelligence.” In this paradigm shift, what becomes of our old companions—the Personal Computer (PC) and the smartphone? They will not be obsolete, but fundamentally reshaped. This article attempts to strip away the noise and forecast the underlying logic of the terminal ecosystem over the next five to ten years.

With increasingly stringent data compliance requirements, the costs and risks associated with training sensitive data in the cloud have skyrocketed. Leveraging local storage and inference capabilities, the PC is re-emerging as a sanctuary for corporate secrets and personal privacy. In the future PC internet, the form of the "Web" will further fade, replaced by powerful native clients. The browser may devolve into a mere "configuration backend," while true productivity explosions will be driven by local AI applications.

We will simply instruct our phones: “Order me a low-calorie dinner and book a car to the airport in half an hour.” The phone’s native OS-level AI (like Apple Intelligence or Gemini) will automatically orchestrate services across applications. Consequently, apps lose their status as front-end entry points, degenerating into background "utility pipes" that provide specific services.

Swiping fingers on glass is an inefficient interaction method. AI empowers phones to "hear" and "see." Voice conversations, visual recognition, and even eye-tracking will become mainstream. Phone screens may shrink (e.g., via foldable outer displays) or be replaced by AR glasses, but their role as personal identity IDs and IoT control hubs will be cemented by AI.

The AI era does not signify the end of the PC or mobile internet, but rather a "functional upgrade" for both. The PC will cease to be a cold office tool and instead become an external brain extending our intellect; the smartphone will stop being a toy tempting us to endlessly scroll and transform into an intelligent antenna connecting us to the physical world.
对于从业者而言,不要再纠结于“端”的争夺,而应关注“智”的建设。对于用户而言,准备好迎接一个不再需要学习软件操作,只需表达意图的全新互联网时代吧。
For industry professionals, the focus should shift from fighting over the "terminal" to building "intelligence." For users, prepare to embrace a brand-new internet era where learning software operations is no longer necessary—only the expression of intent is required.
