076 Type “Sichuan” + GJ-11 / Attack-11: The First-Shot Layer of a Future East Asian Air-Sea Battlefield

If you still read the Western Pacific as Nimitz/Ford vs Liaoning/Shandong/Fujian, you are already behind the curve.

如果你还把西太平洋看成“美军核航母 vs 解放军滑跃/弹射航母”，你已经落后半代。

The real change is this:

• carriers provide the command-and-control / fighter umbrella;
• 076-type ships provide the unmanned first-entry layer;
• stealth UCAVs like GJ-11 / Attack-11 provide the door-kicking, radar-mapping, SAM-suppression, and stand-in ISR;
• missiles (YJ-21, DF series, Long Range Land Attack) provide the kill web;
• helicopters + LCACs + amphibious vehicles provide the physical landing.

航母负责“指挥伞+制空伞”；

076负责“无人先遣层”；

GJ-11/攻击-11负责“踹门、画雷达图、压防空、贴脸ISR”；

Sichuan (076) + GJ-11 is not “a small carrier with a drone.” It is a new class: LHD-UCS — Landing Helicopter Dock, Unmanned Combat Ship.​

“四川舰+GJ-11”不是“带无人机的小航母”，而是一条新舰种：无人战斗型两栖攻击舰。

1. The Ship: Type 076 “Sichuan” (Hull 51)

Type 076 is the first amphibious assault ship in the world to mount EMALS + arresting gear​ as a purpose-built feature, not a retrofit.

Key open facts:

076是世界首型“原生配备电磁弹射+阻拦”的两栖攻击舰。

Why twin island matters:

双舰岛的意义不是好看——

• front island = seamanship, formation routing, surface warfare coordination;
• rear island = air boss, UAV mission management, recovery sequencing.

In a drone-heavy environment, aviation control is no longer “launch F-35B, recover F-35B.” It is:

launch 4 UCAVs → hand them to airborne AEW → retask mid-flight → recover 2 → refuel/arm → launch 3 more → keep 24/7 standoff orbit.

无人机高密度运作下，航空管制变成：弹4架→交给空警/舰载预警机→空中改任务→回收2架→再弹3架→维持24小时前沿滞空。

That is why 076 is closer to a “manned-unmanned mothership”​ than a traditional LHD.

2. The Aircraft: GJ-11 / Attack-11 and Its Naval Mutation

GJ-11 = 攻击-11. Flying-wing, subsonic, low-RCS, internal bay, ground/sea attack + ISR + EW potential.

Its naval mutation is usually called Attack-21 / GJ-21​ in open sources: stronger landing gear, catapult tie-in, arrested-recovery structure, possibly improved datalink and maritime radar modes.

2.1 What GJ-11 is good at

GJ-11擅长什么：

1. Penetrate first-tier air defense​
   突入一岛链内密集防空
2. Map SAM radars before manned strike​
   在有人机进场前把地空导弹雷达“画出来”
3. Drop small PGMs on coastal radars, bridges, missile garages​

4. Act as a shootable sensor​
   当“可牺牲传感器”：被击落也不死飞行员
5. Fly 8–10h loitering orbits​
   飞8–10小时滞空，比有人机便宜得多

2.2 What it is NOT

它不是一个“无人机版歼-20”：

• not a high-G dogfighter;
• not a penetrating SEAD bomber like B-21;
• not a replacement for carrier air wing;
• its small nose limits big AESA + long-range AAM kill chain if alone.

So the correct sentence is:

GJ-11 does not win the air battle. GJ-11 makes the air battle affordable enough to start.

GJ-11不赢空战，GJ-11让“开战”变得打得起。

3. Kill Chain: How Sichuan + GJ-11 Actually Fights

Suppose a 2030-class East Asian scenario: contested Taiwan Strait / Ryukyu gap / Philippine Sea approach.

Phase 0 — Pre-hostility standoff

• 076 operates inside the inner screen with 055 / 052D / 054B.
• GJ-11s fly 600–1000 km ahead, passive RF mapping.
• No missiles fired. No fighters exposed.

Phase 1 — D-48h / D-Day dawn

• KJ-600 or KJ-700 class AEW builds the common picture.
• GJ-11 swarm updates:
  • radar emitters
  • SAM readiness states
  • decoy sites
  • mobile launcher last-seen
• 076 launches waves every 20–30 min. EMALS gives higher sortie rhythm than ski-jump UAV ops.

Phase 2 — Suppression

• GJ-11 drops:
  • anti-radiation munitions on acquisition radars
  • SDB-class PGMs on command posts
  • loitering drones on MANPADS clusters
• 055 fires YJ-21 / land-attack missiles using UCAV-derived targeting.

This is “sensor-shooter decoupling”:

076’s drones see; destroyer’s missiles kill; pilot risk stays near zero.

Phase 3 — Manned Overwatch

• Fujian/Shandong carriers launch J-15T / J-35 for CAP and deep strike.
• GJ-11 acts as:
  • loyal wingman
  • decoy generator
  • EW node
  • battle-damage assessment camera

Phase 4 — Landing

• LCAC from well dock → beach
• Z-20 / Z-8 / Z-21 → vertical envelopment
• GJ-11 continues CAS from 150 km inland, marking targets for helicopters

Result: the first 200 km of enemy defense is already “software-degraded” before the first Marine hits sand.

4. East Asia Geography: Why This Combo Is Made for the First Island Chain

The Western Pacific is not the Atlantic. Distances are short, coasts are mountainous, SAM density is insane.

A carrier deployment signals “war.”

A 076 deployment signals “presence + readiness + unmanned capability.”

In East Asia diplomacy, that nuance matters.

5. Compare: US America-class, Japanese Izumo, ROK CVX, 076

US America / Wasp (F-35B)

• Strength: mature V/STOL, Marines, C2, global logistics.
• Weakness: F-35B weight/range penalty, no EMALS, UCAV potential capped by deck doctrine.

Japan Izumo (F-35B)

• Strength: alliance C2, basing, sensors.
• Weakness: no catapult, no well dock at full LHD level, political constraints on offensive UCAV.

ROK CVX (planned)

• Light carrier debate; F-35B path; UCAV unclear.
• Doctrinally more “prestige + sea control” than “amphibious unmanned kill web.”

China 076 Sichuan

• Unique: amphibious + EMALS + UCAV-first
• Not better than Ford. Not meant to be.
• Better than any foreign LHD at unmanned first-day penetration.

Verdict:

076 does not beat a supercarrier. It beats every other amphibious ship class in the “day-zero unmanned strike” role.

6. The Hard Problems Nobody Should Ignore

Professional observation means naming the friction.

6.1 Deck cycle under combat damage

One catapult track = bottleneck.

If track 1 fouled, sortie rate collapses.

076 is not a 4-catapult fleet carrier.

6.2 UCAV recovery in heavy sea

Flying-wing + arrested landing + ship motion = brutal flight-control problem.

Land tests ≠ typhoon-lane recovery.

6.3 Data link survivability

If GJ-11 depends on one AEW node:

• jamming
• spoofing
• relay loss
  then the swarm goes blind.

Future doctrine needs:

• autonomous ROE
• mesh relay
• onboard target prioritization
• human-on-the-loop, not human-in-every-loop

6.4 Rules of engagement / autonomy

Who pulls the trigger when GJ-11 marks a truck that might be a missile launcher or a ambulance?

East Asia urban-coastal warfare = dense civilian RF background.

Autonomy without accountability = strategic liability.

6.5 Logistics

UCAVs still need:

• munition reload
• composite repair
• EO/IR calibration
• datalink crypto update

A 40k-ton ship with a well dock has less hangar volume than a fleet carrier. Sortie tempo can exceed sustainment if not designed carefully.

7. Doctrine Name: “Layered First Shot”

I would name the 076+GJ-11 concept:

Layered First Shot (LFS)​

分层首击 / 无人踹门层

Layer 1: satellites + OTH radar

Layer 2: AEW fixed-wing

Layer 3: 076-launched GJ-11 penetration ISR

Layer 4: 055/052D missile launch using UCAV targeting

Layer 5: carrier fighters for air superiority

Layer 6: helicopters + LCAC + Marines

Carriers say: “I own the sky.”

076 + GJ-11 says: “I own the first 30 minutes of everyone else’s air-defense plan.”

8. Strategic Meaning for East Asia

1. Deterrence gets cheaper.​
   You do not need to risk pilots to make the enemy’s SAM network useless on D-Day.
2. Escalation ladder gets finer.​
   Send drones → deny airspace. Send fighters → near-war. Send carriers → war.
   076 sits between “patrol” and “strike.”
3. Alliance targeting gets harder.​
   If 076 hides among a 055 screen, its UCAVs launch from 300 km behind the surface line, the shooter is not the ship, the ship is just the cradle.
4. Taiwan / Ryukyu / Senkaku / Scarborough logic changes.​
   Not “who lands first,” but “whose sensors survive first.”

9. English Close — The Sentence That Matters

The Type 076 “Sichuan” is not a copy of a carrier.

It is not a bigger America-class.

It is the PLA Navy’s answer to a very specific problem:

How do you break a first-island-chain air-defense system without spending generals, pilots, or a supercarrier on the first night?

The answer is:

a 40,000-ton electric catapult deck, a twin-island C2 bridge, and a hangar full of flying-wing ghosts named GJ-11.

Sichuan (076) is the cradle. GJ-11 is the ghost. The kill web is the weapon. The carrier is no longer alone.​

If East Asia fights a 2030s air-sea war, the first shot may not come from a pilot, a cruiser, or a ballistic missile.
